Car Key Replacement in Townsville

Lost a key, snapped one off in the ignition, or down to a single key you can't afford to lose? I cut and program replacement car keys at the vehicle, anywhere in Townsville — no tow, no dealership wait.

What a replacement actually involves

Almost every car built since the late 1990s has an immobiliser. Cutting a blade that turns the lock is only half the job — the key also carries a transponder chip that has to be electronically matched to your car's immobiliser before the engine will start. A key cut at a hardware counter will open the door and turn in the ignition, then do nothing.

I carry the cutting gear and the programming equipment in the van, so both halves happen in the one visit, at the kerb, usually while you wait.

Key types I cut and program

  • Basic transponder keys

A plain blade with a chip in the head. Common on utes and base-model cars through the 2000s and 2010s.

  • Remote and flip keys

Central locking buttons built into the key, with the blade folding into the fob. The remote is paired to the car along with the chip.

  • Push-to-start smart keys

Proximity fobs with no blade in normal use. These are the most involved to replace and sit at the upper end of the price range.

  • Spare keys

Cheaper and faster than an emergency replacement. If you're down to one key, this is the call worth making before it becomes urgent.

What it costs

Car keys start at $99 cut and programmed. Where your car lands in the range depends on the key type above — a basic transponder is at the bottom, a push-to-start smart fob at the top.

Give me the make, model and year on the phone and you'll get a fixed price before I leave. Pensioners and seniors get 10% off. Card and EFTPOS on site, plus Afterpay.

Common questions

Before you call

Do I need to have the car towed to you?

No. The van is the workshop — I come to wherever the car is parked, whether that's your driveway, a work car park or the side of the road.

How long does a replacement key take?

Most jobs are done inside the one visit. A basic transponder is quicker than a push-to-start smart key, and an all-keys-lost job takes longer again because the car has to be opened and read first.

Can you do keys for any car?

I work on Australian-domestic-market vehicles — cars, utes and 4WDs delivered new to the Australian market. Imports and grey-market vehicles sometimes use different systems, so call with the details and I'll tell you honestly either way.

Need this sorted today?

Call or text with the details — vehicle make, model and rego, or the address if it's a property — and I'll tell you what's involved and what it costs.
